Liverpool’s goalkeeping crisis has seen Andy Lonergan lie on the verge of signing a short-term contract with the Reds.
The veteran stopper spent time at the club during pre-season, helping out while Alisson was still on holiday and youngster Caoimhin Kelleher was injured.
Alisson has now picked up an injury of his own, with Jurgen Klopp confirming that he is set to miss a “few weeks” of action.
The Liverpool manager went on to add that Lonergan is a “brilliant character” and a “really nice lad”, saying he could be on the substitutes’ bench for the UEFA Super Cup clash with Chelsea on Wednesday.

Lonergan’s arrival is a no-brainer in many ways, considering the position Liverpool find themselves in.
The 35-year-old shouldn’t be needed unless the Reds are desperately unfortunate, with Adrian taking Alisson’s spot for the time being, and likely to play every game without the Brazilian around.
Lonergan has enjoyed a long and successful career, though, and his experience in and around the squad certainly can’t do any harm.
As Klopp has alluded to, he is a good character and he will add some much-needed squad depth in Alisson and Kelleher’s absence.
