On one of the most hyped up nights in recent football history, Jurgen Klopp took his Liverpool team back to Dortmund to face off against his former employers and secured a credible 1-1 draw ahead of next week’s return leg.
Despite the German side currently performing well under Klopp’s successor, Thomas Tuchel, Liverpool performed astutely at the Westfalenstadion and went into half-time ahead after a smart turn and finish from Divock Origi, starting ahead of Daniel Sturridge.
Dortmund captain Mats Hummels netted a header soon after the interval to equalise, but BVB failed to produce anything more from their continued pressure and Liverpool will go into the Anfield leg with a possibly crucial away goal.
