Player ratings: Liverpool 2-2 Newcastle

What bottlejobs the Reds have been in the league this season.

Alright, a couple of key players were rested with an eye on Thursday, and the Mamadou Sakho stuff hasn’t exactly helped, but it’s just been in Liverpool’s DNA this season to fail to close out games.

The Reds were in the ascendency from the first whistle. Daniel Sturridge’s terrific control, swivel and finish got the game off to a perfect start, and a gorgeous Adam Lallana strike set Liverpool up for what looked like a routine win.

But then the second half happened. Simon Mignolet happened.

So that’s top four finally out of the question, and all eyes now will be on the Europa League campaign.

The Reds have to make sure that their confidence doesn’t take too much of a hit. They also have to make sure that things like this don’t happen with such regularity next season. Only Everton have dropped more points from winning positions this term.

Here are the player ratings.
