Hamza Choudhury was the victim of racist abuse on social media over the weekend, following Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Leicester City.
The English midfielder injured Mohamed Salah late on in proceedings, forcing the Reds superstar off the field with an ankle injury.
Abuse subsequently came his way and Sky Sports have confirmed that Leicestershire Police have now started making “initial inquiries” into the reported racist tweets.
Leicester reported the issue, having released the following statement revealing their disgust at the situation:
We are appalled by these comments, which the club has reported to the police and to the social media platform on which they were made.
Discriminatory behaviour has no place in football or in society and we will seek the strongest possible course of action to be taken against those responsible.

The hope is that those who are found guilty of this shocking behaviour are found and dealt with sufficiently.
Racism remains a big issue in the modern game, which is an sad indictment of the world we live in.
Choudhury simply made an honest, if reckless, mistake at Anfield on Saturday – there was never any intention to hurt Salah.
To receive such horrific abuse because of something that happens on a football pitch is extremely concerning.
