Possible Liverpool Trio

Possible Liverpool Trio

I was asked by Ste to name three players I would realistically like Liverpool to sign next month, my first reaction was, “only three!?”

Seeing that it has been widely reported that FSG are not going to spend any money in January (unless Rodgers can shift some players first. Fabio I’m looking at you!). The transfer committee will be mostly looking at loans and free transfers to sort this mess we currently find ourselves in.

For me, the two main positions where we have been severely lacking are goalkeeper and forward.

The million dollar question is who though? It’s hard enough to identify someone to buy in January, it’s even tricker to do it with next-to-no money to spend.

However, here goes.

Number 1:  Cech/Valdes

It’s vitally important that Liverpool’s next move for a goalkeeper is to bring in someone who would instantly command the respect of his team mates. The problem with our goalkeeper at present is that his team mates and the collective fan base don’t have a clue what he is going to do with the ball when it is at his feet or coming in as a cross.

Ask any former-pro, if you don’t trust your goalkeeper, then you’re more likely to concede a goal. While Simon Mignolet continues to be our goalkeeper, we will concede goals.

Valdes, as we all know, is available on a free transfer, he would already be a Liverpool player if we had guaranteed him first team football and match his wage demands. However for reasons we don’t know, this hasn’t happened.

Cech, would be my first choice goalkeeper to come in. There is a good chance he could come in on loan, the question is, would he want to come to Liverpool? Would Chelsea let him come to Liverpool?

If either of those players were to arrive between now and February 1st, I would be very happy.

Number 2. Origi

Liverpool need someone who can compliment Daniel Sturridge and also be the main man when the ‘man with legs made of glass’ is out injured. Brendan has been drastically unlucky to be without one of the best forwards in Europe for the majority of the season so far. The biggest error he and his back room team made was not foreseeing this and bringing in another forward as well as Balotelli to account for this. Liverpool have a player in France on loan at his parent club. Originally the only reason this deal went ahead was because he could do so, but now a few things ave occurred since the summer. Lille need money, and Liverpool need a forward.

Rodgers will argue that his young Belgian forward will do best staying in France to further his progression, however if he is not careful, he might not get a chance to work with Origi at all!

The rumoured fee would only be £4 million to cut his year-long loan deal. A bargain if the lad comes in and scores 10 goals or more.

Number 3: Cabaye

Steven Gerrard, Joe Allen, Jordan Henderson & Lucas Leiva have all played the deep lying midfield role this season. All have played there and done “okay”.

Liverpool are missing a player who can: run, defend, pass, shoot and lead at the same time.

Yohan Cabaye, not only could come in and improve our midfield, he would jump at the chance to get away from PSG where he has only played 90 minutes of football once this season!

It’s common knowledge that his agent is looking for a way out for his client, and the best bit is that a loan move could be the best option for all parties. Would Liverpool go for him? Would Arsenal or another team in Europe let Liverpool have a clean swing at him? Time will tell, however if it could happen, it would be an amazing short term solution for all involved.

Now, there are more clued up people out there who watch more football than I do, and there are more people out there who play a lot more Football Manager than I do – those people  will no doubt recommend other names that I will have never heard of that could come in to do a job.

I’ve gone for these three because as I’ve stated, it’s essential that in such a short space of time they can come in and command respect from their team mates. They also need to bring a lift to the squad who are currently scraping the barrels of confidence at this current moment in time.

Brendan Rodgers has 6 months to save his job, I can’t think of three better players that can come in for less then £4m combined who could help him do so.

P.s cheeky 4th choice shout out for Jermaine Defoe who’s available on a free transfer. Scores goals, and is gagging for a return to the Premiership
