Pundit tips Liverpool to sign Grealish this summer

Jack Grealish could excel for Liverpool if he joins this summer, according to Kevin Phillips.

The Aston Villa star has enjoyed an impressive season for the Premier League strugglers, scoring nine goals and registering six assists in total.

Grealish is being linked with a move away this summer, however, with Manchester United arguably the front-runners to sign him.

Speaking to Football Insider, former England striker Phillips tipped the 24-year-old to shine at Anfield.

Liverpool are at a point where they can splash out on the world’s best. Those world’s best players want to come and play for Liverpool and Klopp. He plays a certain style and he will not buy someone unless it plays his system.

The obvious one is Jack Grealish. If Villa go down I am certain he will move on. Could he play for Liverpool? He is the only one out of the bottom three or four teams that could fit in that team.

They will certainly be targeting players from top abroad teams and around the world.

There is no denying Grealish’s vast impact at Villa this season, but I also think there is no guarantee that he could be a success at Liverpool. While Villa are built around him, he could become another cog in the machine for the Reds.

I believe someone like Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz has a higher ceiling, for example, with the 20-year-old already a star man for club and country.

Havertz has 17 goals involvements this season – 10 goals, seven assists – and he scored 20 times in 2018/19, too. He has proven himself at Champions League and Europa League level, also making seven appearances for Germany.

In comparison, Grealish lacks any kind of European pedigree, never playing in any of the club competitions and still awaiting a debut at international level.

Considering he turns 25 later this year, that isn’t too much to write home about, especially as he is being valued at around £70 million by United.
