Liverpool have been drawn alongside Napoli, Red Bull Salzburg and Genk in this season’s Champions League group stage.
The Reds have received a more favorable draw compared to last year, when they were pitted against Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade.
Jurgen Klopp’s side should have an easier group stage campaign, as they attempt to win a seventh European Cup.
There is no doubting that Napoli will be Liverpool’s biggest challenge in this group. The Reds beat Carlo Ancelotti’s team 1-0 at Anfield last season, but lost by the same margin in Naples, thanks to a late goal from Lorenzo Insigne.
Salzburg and Genk are teams that Liverpool should beat comfortably but they can’t be written off, with underestimating opponents potentially dangerous in Europe’s greatest club competition.
Ever since group stages have been introduced to the Champions League – the competition changed from the European Cup back in 1992 – Liverpool have played in the competition on 11 occasions, facing more than 30 opponents in that time.
