Liverpool deny that Emre Can is out for the season

The Liverpool Echo are reporting that Emre Can will return this season, with his injury being less severe than it was feared late on Thursday evening.

It was reported by the Mirror that the German international would be out for the remainder of the season. However, the Echo revealed that the midfielder is expected to be back in action in around two weeks time.

The absence of Can is a huge blow for Jurgen Klopp, who will be without captain Jordan Henderson for the return leg of the Champions League quarter final at the Etihad after he picked up a one-match ban.

It was back in March when Can aggravated his back, during the 5-0 victory over the struggling Watford, this resulted in the 24-year-old having to withdraw from the German national squad.

Jurgen Klopp had hoped to have the midfielder back at Melwood last weekend, but he still hasn’t returned back to training.

With the likes of Adam Lallana, Can and Henderson unavailable for the second leg against Pep Guardioloa’s side, Klopp will have the headache of only having three senior midfielders to select from; James Milner, Gini Wijnaldum and the first leg goalscorer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
