When Liverpool paid fellow Premier League side Southampton £75m for the services of centre-back Virgil van Dijk, rival fans simply could not stop criticising the Reds.
Van Dijk was considered as nothing better than average and opposition fans took this transfer as a chance to mock Liverpool and praise the Saints for managing to get such a high fee for him.
The Dutchman officially became a Red in January 2018 and is now a UEFA Champions League winner, UEFA Super Cup winner and World Club Cup winner.
These fans must be eating their words…

Oh how sweet it is to see all of these negative comments coming back to haunt these fans.
Van Dijk is widely considered as the best centre-back on the planet at the moment. His signing has transformed the Reds into a new beast which seems impossible to stop at the moment.
£75m turned out to be an absolute steal by Liverpool. Nothing like a nice piece of humble pie for Christmas.
