Rodgers: Departures likely

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he is expecting players to leave by the end of the summer transfer window, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

The Merseyside club have spent heavily this summer, adding seven new first-team players to their ranks (eight if you include Divock Origi who has returned from his loan spell at Lille).

When queried about the situation regarding Fabio Borini, Mario Balotelli, Lucas Leiva and Jose Enrique in his news conference ahead of the Reds’ first home game of the new season against AFC Bournemouth on Monday, Rodgers said: “I think it’s natural at this stage of the season, there will be moves I’m sure for some players.

“What’s clear is that every player has the understanding of exactly where they stand within the squad. The spirit is strong, it’s fine but of course it’s a difficult situation because of the transfer market and it’s still open until the end of this month.

“There’s always going to be that speculation but I’m sure there will be some movement, obviously, of some of the players that want to play.”

Italian Borini – who the Echo report could leave on loan – has had opportunities to leave Anfield but has opted to stay, whilst Liverpool are willing to listen for offers for midfielder Lucas Leiva according to Sky Sports.

Spanish left-back Enrique has just one year left on his contract, and has Joe Gomez and Alberto Moreno to compete with for a place in the side, but has told Marca that any move away would be complicated because of the ‘economy’.
