Rodgers relishes ‘perfect fixture’ to start season

When the Premier League fixtures were released and Brendan Rodgers saw who Liverpool’s first match of the season would be against, he couldn’t have been happier to read “Stoke v Liverpool.”

In his first pre-match presser, via Liverpool Echo, the Liverpool boss went as far as to call it a “perfect fixture.”

“For me it was the perfect fixture to go away to Stoke. I was happy when that came out.”

Rodgers accepts all verbal daggers that’ve come his way in response to that result.

“We all know what happened there was unacceptable and all the stick we got for it was thoroughly deserved.”

The Ulsterman also acknowledges how disappointing it was.

“A score like that should never happen. Stood there watching, it was uncomfortable for sure. It was incredible in every aspect of football. We lacked in everything. It was very surprising and disappointing.”

Rodgers has warned Stoke that in 2015-16’s inaugural match Liverpool will be much, much better than the 2014-15 finale.

“We will certainly be better than what we were there last year,” Rodgers said. “We’ve had a very good pre-season. There’s been lots of travel but I’ve been delighted with the response from the players and I’m really looking forward to the start of the season.”

matchday.
