Rodgers to rest key players at Bordeaux

Liverpool Football Club have departed Merseyside en route to France ahead of their first Europa League clash of the season against Bordeaux and Brendan Rodgers has left some key players behind.

As per the Liverpool Echo, the likes of Christian Benteke, James Milner, Lucas Leiva, Dejan Lovren, Martin Skrtel and Nathaniel Clyne will be rested.

One key player that will be in the team is Philippe Coutinho, fresh after serving his Premier League suspension over the weekend. Adam Lallana is also fit enough to travel.

The players that are being rested are certainly in line for one and it was likely the first five would be saved for the weekend because of their ready-made replacements waiting behind them.

However in Clyne’s case, as there’s not another recognised right full-back on the senior squad, he might’ve been stuck with double duty for a while.

But, with Clyne being rightfully rested, it appears as if Joe Gomez will slide over to the right side as he did for the England Under-21s.

Divock Origi and Danny Ings will get valuable minutes that will help their progress and most Liverpool fans will hope to see Jordan Rossiter play from the start.

Other academy stars that have made the trip are Connor Randall, Cameron Brannagan and Dan Cleary.

matchday.
