Shaqiri could miss Liverpool’s next two matches through injury

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Xherdan Shaqiri could be out for around 10 days, therefore missing the upcoming clashes with Sheffield United and Everton, in the Premier League and FA Cup respectively.

The Swiss was in line to start Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Wolves on Sunday afternoon, as Klopp looked to rotate his squad.

A hamstring injury scuppered the manager’s plans, however, and he only ended up making one change from the side that won 4-0 at Leicester City on Boxing Day.

Speaking after the game, Klopp admitted to BBC Sport that he was planning on using Shaqiri, also adding that is likely to be sidelined over the next week or two:

Shaqiri could have started but last night he felt a little bit the hamstring; he’s out not for long, but maybe a week or 10 days, whatever.

Shaqiri has enjoyed a pleasing resurgence at Liverpool this season, having looked surplus to requirements at one point.

The 28-year-old was superb in the 5-2 victory over Everton earlier in the campaign and now looks a handy squad player again.

The hope is that he returns from injury swiftly, allowing Klopp to keep first-choice attacking players fresh.
