Ahead of Manchester United’s mid-table clash against Newcastle United later today, Luke Shaw has made a rather staggering claim.
Man United are the only team to take points off Liverpool in the Premier League this season but languish in 8th, 24 points behind the Reds after 18 games.
Speaking to the official club website, cited by The Mag, Shaw expressed how he was confident the United squad matches those of the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City:
I feel that the squad we have is no different from the squads that are challenging for the title. We’ve got such amazing players and some amazing young players who are still learning. I’ve got full confidence in this squad and in the manager.

Their Boxing Day opponents at Old Trafford, Newcastle, sit on the same points as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, which makes Shaw’s recent comments all the more baffling.
In past seasons, United have boasted a team of similar quality of personnel, if not better than Liverpool when they’ve underachieved.
However now, Solskjaer’s squad, bar a few top-class names, is average at best and will be until they invest during the transfer window.
It should bring comfort to plenty of Liverpool fans knowing just how far ahead they are at the moment.
