On this day in 1951, Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish was born in Glasgow. Fast-forward 65 years and King Kenny is one of, if not the, most iconic figures in the history of Liverpool Football Club.
As a player, Kenny was one of the greatest to ever wear the Red shirt and his record as a manager wasn’t too bad either.
Dalglish played 515 times for Liverpool, scoring 172 goals, including a winner in the 1978 European Cup final.
The pressure was on Kenny to perform from day one. He was signed to replace Kevin Keegan, who was leaving to join Hamburg. In fact, he wore the number seven shirt made famous by Keegan in his debut in 1977, when Liverpool met Manchester United in the Charity Shield.
He scored 31 goals that season and he managed to reach double figures for the next seven seasons as he endeared himself to Liverpool fans.
