Steven Gerrard praises Ben Woodburn’s attitude

Liverpool youth manager Steven Gerrard has praised teenage wonder-kid Ben Woodburn for his attitude after captaining the under-19 side in the UEFA Youth League, according to a report on the Daily Mail.

Woodburn has come through the youth system at Liverpool and is one of most promising talents that the Merseyside club have produced in recent years.

The 18-year-old has featured once this season for the first team under Jurgen Klopp but has been playing most of his football for the under-23 side.

Klopp hasn’t turned to Woodburn much this season, which has allowed club legend Gerrard to work closely with the Welshman and is very pleased with what he has see from him so far.

Gerrard said:

I think Ben needs to play at the moment so if Jurgen doesn’t need him at first-team level it’s an excellent opportunity to come and play with his friends who he came through the system with; be the captain and leader in this team and set the example.

I am pleased with Ben because his attitude and mentality when he comes down to train at the academy is 10 out of 10. That gives everyone a lift.

We all know Ben is going to play different types of football this year, he knows that and is happy with that. I think the reason we are getting positive performances is because everyone is bouncing off him.

Liverpool top their group in the UEFA Youth League as Woodburn has captained all three games in the competition so far.
