Stewart believes he belongs in the Premier League

The result of Liverpool’s FA Cup match versus West Ham was less than stellar, but there were some inspiring performances.

The likes of Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge back in the squad was a certain boost, but the young players were arguably the most impressive.

Former Tottenham Hotspur youth player Kevin Stewart enjoyed a great performance. The 22-year-old commanded the midfield, playing alongside Pedro Chirivella.

Stewart opened up to Liverpoolfc.com journalist David Lynch after the match:

“It’s got some of the young players’ names out there, showed people what they can do. There are a lot of positives to take from the FA Cup,” he said.

“I’ve waited a very long time for [this], so it’s a bit of relief to finally show what I can do.

“Most of my career, the games I’ve played well in have been against younger players and players my age.

It’s nice to prove to myself I can cope with the Premier League players and do well against them.

“It makes it much more competitive and I think I thrive in competitive situations. When a lot of players come back [to fitness], we need to fight more, and I think that’s why I’m going to improve.”

Recalled from his Swindon Town loan on January 8, Stewart has been a fixture in several matches for Jurgen Klopp so far. It is clear he has first team ambitions and is excited to be able to play alongside and against Premier League talent.

The Enfield-born Englishman boasts impressive stats in the FA cup, and has made 85% of his passes, and won 84% of his tackles, but has yet to make an appearance in the league.

With Liverpool still alive in three competitions, and their next three matches against Aston Villa, and FC Augsburg (A, H), Stewart will have to think Tuesday night’s match won’t be his last chance to show Klopp what kind of player he can be.

Stewart saying he can cope with Premier League talent shows great confidence, something Klopp will welcome in his struggling side.
