It’s been revealed that Emerson Palmieri could have joined Liverpool back in the summer of 2017.
The Athletic‘s Liam Twomey claims the Brazilian was a primary left-back target for the Reds, before injury got in the way:
He quickly blossomed into one of Serie A’s best left-backs and was identified by Liverpool as an alternative summer target to Hull’s Andy Robertson, only to suffer the same injury as Rui during Francesco Totti’s grand farewell on the final day of the season.
Instead, it was Andy Robertson who moved to Anfield, before Emerson eventually headed to Chelsea.
These Liverpool and Chelsea fans have react to the news on Twitter.
@KingKloppite: “Didn’t though did he. You’re not going to suggest you lot did better getting Emerson than we did Robertson…?”
@Maverick_Jnr: “We got the better deal.”
@Mehra7z: “Heard he was the 2nd best lb in the league at the time so it makes sense.”

While Emerson is proving to be a perfectly good signing for Chelsea, there is no doubt that Liverpool got the better deal.
Robertson has been a huge success since joining from Hull City, maturing into one of the best left-backs in Europe.
In terms of value-for-money signings, Jurgen Klopp arguably hasn’t conducted a better piece of business as Liverpool manager.
The Scotland captain is integral to the way the Reds play, providing so much quality and consistency down the left flank.
