Sepp van den Berg and Ki-Jana Hoever had nights to forget for Liverpool’s U23s on Monday evening, even though they beat Southampton.
The young Reds ended up winning 4-2 in the Premier League 2 clash, but the pair found life tough in Liverpool’s defence, despite having some positive moments.
The two Dutchmen are still finding their feet at Anfield, with both having huge reputations and being tipped to be long-term success stories on Merseyside.
Some Liverpool supporters couldn’t help but criticise Van den Berg and Hoever’s respective performances against Saints on Twitter.

Tuned in for like the past 5 mins of the LFC U23 game… Van den Berg isn’t looking too great.

Watching the LFC u23’s. Can constantly hear staff shouting release she Hoever has the ball. He has a habit of holding on to it too long. Still needs work.

There should be no panic about Van den Berg and Hoever’s displays, with the pair still very much maturing as footballers.
Playing for the U23s is a learning curve as they adjust to life at one of the world’s biggest clubs.
Liverpool’s recruitment expertise during Jurgen Klopp’s tenure shows why fans should have faith in them having bright futures with the Reds.
Both are prodigiously gifted, and once Virgil van Dijk’s playing days are coming to an end years down the line, don’t be surprised if Van den Berg and Hoever are primed to replace him.
