Dejan Lovren’s likely exit to Roma is a risk by Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp may have exciting alternatives lined up.
According to the Times‘ Paul Joyce on Twitter, Roma and Lovren are “in talks” about a £15 million move before the August 23rd cutoff.
The Croatian is thought to be accepting of the fact that he is now the fourth-choice centre-back at Anfield, behind Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
Liverpool fans have been responding to the news on Twitter – here’s some of the best reaction, with many bemused by the decision.
A lot of the same people saying it would be madness to sell Lovren are the same ones saying that he was a waste of space & should never play for #LFC again in the past.

I have been a huge critic of his, but fair play to Lovren if he takes the opportunity to go to Roma and not collect wages on Liverpool's bench. If only they were all like that.

I get that Lovren may want a move due to lack of game time but there is 0 merits in letting him go when we would be left with 3 senior CB 2 of which have a history of injuries…#LFC

If Lovren leaves, that’s leaves us with only 3 recognised CB. One whom is a sadly injury prone & also our main RB cover. It comes down to how ready Sepp to be our recognised 4th choice CB & how ready are Hoever/Larouci to provide cover for our FBs.

READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT
Liverpool are taking a big risk in getting rid of Lovren, leaving them with only three established centre-backs.
An injury to any of Van Dijk, Gomez or Matip would suddenly leave the Reds looking light at the back, particularly if the former spent a spell on the sidelines.
It could be that Klopp has total faith in two outstanding young prospect, however.
Ki-Jana Hoever and Sepp van den Berg are both hugely exciting teenage talents who many at Liverpool believe will have bright futures.
Klopp is also not one to keep hold of players to don’t want to be at the club, so in that respect, letting Lovren leave makes sense.
There is no denying the risk element, though, and only time will tell if it was the correct decision.
