Tottenham and Chelsea join Liverpool in race to sign White

Tottenham and Chelsea have joined Liverpool in the race to land Brighton centre-back Ben White at the end of the season.

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea have all been sending scouts to watch the defender in action whilst on loan at Leeds in the Championship.

The report does, however, claim that any deal can only happen in the summer, due to there not being a release clause in his loan with Leeds.

Liverpool like to plan for the future, as shown by the signings of players like Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg, so a move for White would make perfect sense. The centre-back has been excellent in the Championship for Leeds, recording a WhoScored rating of 7.16 for his performances this season, and clearly has plenty of potential at just 22-years-old.

White has averaged an impressive 1.8 tackles, 2.6 interceptions and 3.6 clearances per-game in the Championship this season, topping the entire division for interceptions per-game. This shows that he reads the game well, with a pass completion rate of 84.8% suggesting that he is also capable on the ball, which is an asset needed to play in Liverpool’s first-team.

To possess these qualities and show them each week for Leeds, at the top of the Championship, at the age of 22 shows that he has the potential to be a Premier League player. If Liverpool’s scouts like the look of him, he could be a very good signing for the Reds.
