Sander Westerveld
Sander played a key role in most of the treble winning season, his most memorable action was his penalty save from Birmingham City’s Andy Johnson in the League Cup Final.
During his second season, Westerveld made an error against Bolton that led to him being dropped from the side and subsequently sold to Real Sociedad for £3.4m in the winter transfer window of 2001.
Westerveld spent four-and-a-half seasons at Sociedad, but was loaned out in the last of those seasons.
Following the end of his contract in Spain he became a bit of a European journeyman spending time at Portsmouth, Everton, Almeria, Sparta Rotterdam, Monza and Ajax Cape Town.
When his contract was up at the end of the 2012-2013 season Westerveld elected to retire and now assumes the role of goalkeeping coach at Ajax Cape Town.
Markus Babbel
Babbel continued to be an integral part of the Liverpool side and even scored in the UEFA Cup Final of the treble season.
He unfortunately contracted Guillain-Barre syndrome which meant he was unable to play for a year and he never re-established himself in the Liverpool side.
Markus was shipped out on loan to Blackburn Rovers before his contracted ended and he joined Stuttgart for a three-season spell.
When he retired, Babbel remained at Stuttgart as an assistant coach and eventually became manager in November 2008.
During his time as manager he led Stuttgart to a third place Bundesliga finish and entry into the Champions League.
Disappointingly the following season Stuttgart were unable to replicate performances of the previous year and Babbel was sacked.
Since then he managed the likes of Hertha Berlin and Hoffenheim and is currently the manager of FC Luzern.
Sami Hyypia
After the treble winning season, Hyypia continued to construct what would turn out to be an illustrious career with the Reds.
During 2001, he made his first appearances as captain of the club before being superseded by Steven Gerrard in 2003.
Perhaps his finest moment was his defensive partnership with Jamie Carragher during the 2005 season in which he won the Champions League.
He remained with Liverpool until 2009 when he bid an emotional farewell to the supporters he had won the hearts of during his time at the club.
Hyypia joined Bayer Leverkusen for two seasons and returned there as manager in 2012. After two seasons with the club he left to become the manager of Brighton & Hove Albion but ultimately this venture ended in disappointment as he resigned from the role following a string of bad performances.
It is now rumoured he may become Brendan Rodgers’ number two in the Anfield dugout.
Stephane Henchoz
Henchoz established an immense centre-half partnership with Sami Hyypia during his time at the club.
Following the treble win, Henchoz did suffer from injury and spent time out of the team when Igor Biscan was preferred to him.
However he re-entered the side during the 2003-04 season, helping Liverpool to a fourth-place finish.
Unluckily for Henchoz, the arrival of Rafael Benitez signalled his exit and he joined Celtic. After six months he decided he wanted to rejoin the Premier League and signed for Wigan.
After a year he moved to Blackburn and remained there until 2008 when he was released, it was at this point that he decided to retire from football. He began and is still studying his coaching badges.
Djimi Traore
Whilst he started the game against Bradford in August 2001, he was sent to Lens for the following season on loan and upon return spent the 2003-04 season as reserve team captain.
Probably surprisingly to most observers, Djimi became a regular at Anfield under Rafa Benitez and earned himself a Champions League Final start in 2005.
He made one of the most telling contributions of the note, clearing a sure Shevchenko winner off the line before famously beating the post!
Traore was sold to Charlton in 2006 and moved around after that spending time at Portsmouth (two seasons on loan at Rennes and Birmingham City), AS Monaco and Marseille before making the switch across the pond to join up with the Seattle Sounders of the MLS.
At the ceasing of the 2013-14 season with the Sounders where he made 42 appearances, Traore retired from football.
Part two will be available on the site soon.
