Trent Alexander-Arnold has hailed the performances of Joe Gomez, calling his teammate ‘unbelievable’.
Gomez has returned to top form over last month or so, helping Liverpool keep clean sheets in eight of his last nine appearances.
In fact, the only goal conceded in that time came against Monterrey in the Club World Cup semi-final, when Jordan Henderson was in an auxiliary centre-back role alongside him.
Speaking to LiverpoolFC.com, Alexander-Arnold lauded the impact Gomez has made in the absence of injured pair Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren, also talking up his partnership with Virgil van Dijk:
Just as solid as anything really. Always there on the cover, always getting the blocks in, his last-ditch tackles are unbelievable.
The pace and the power that he has is almost like an attacker. He can go toe-for-toe with any attacker and we’d all be confident that he could be faster than them, stronger than them and be able to hold his own.
For us, that’s massive in terms of the confidence that he gives us as a back four and the players in front.
It’s a great partnership between him and Virg. They have a good bond on and off the pitch, that’s something that’s important.

I believe Gomez is Liverpool’s second-best centre-back and the best partner for Virgil van Dijk moving forward.
That is no slight on Matip, whose superb form before injury made him, for me, one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
Gomez and Van Dijk now look truly formidable alongside one another, however, as the Reds’ recent run of results show.
They were also a world-class pairing in the early stages of last season, prior to Gomez breaking his leg at Burnley.
I think the 22-year-old can become one of the best defenders in the world in the coming years.
There is nothing he lacks in his game, whether it be blistering pace, strength, reading of play or quality on the ball.
