Trio of Liverpool youngsters fly out to Qatar – but Elliott isn’t one of them

Liverpool trio Caoimhin Kelleher, Ki-Jana Hoever and Sepp van den Berg will fly out to Qatar on Wednesday to take part in the Club World Cup, according to Goal’s Neil Jones on Twitter.

Harvey Elliott has remained on Merseyside, however, joining up with the Reds’ Under-23s instead.

Liverpool were beaten 5-0 away to Aston Villa on Tuesday night, in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

It was the youngest Reds side in history, however, and they gave a good account of themselves, especially Elliott.

Kelleher, Hoever and Van den Berg all started at Villa Park and will now join up with their senior colleagues in the Far East.

It is unlikely that any of the trio will feature in Qatar this week, but it could still prove to be an invaluable experience for them.

Liverpool could be crowned world champions on Saturday – to be a part of that can only be a good thing moving forward.

It is a slight surprise that Elliott hasn’t travelled, though, following such an eye-catching performance against Villa.
