Werner sees Liverpool as his ‘preferred goal’ this summer

Timo Werner sees a move to Liverpool as his ‘preferred goal’ this summer, according to Bild, (translated into English by Sport Witness).

The 23-year-old is, according to the report, expected to leave RB Leipzig at the end of the season, with a host of clubs keen on signing him, including Chelsea.

Liverpool are one of those thought to be in the hunt and they have received a potential boost in their efforts to acquire his signature.

This latest report states that Werner would like to join the Reds over any other club, with ‘good relations’ between Liverpool and Leipzig helping in that respect following Naby Keita’s move to Anfield in 2018.

He could leave later than this summer, though, with his €60 million exit clause starting to decrease up until his contract expires in June 2023.

In my opinion, Werner couldn’t be more suited to excelling in this Reds team.

First and foremost, the £67.5 million-rated striker has a huge amount of talent, scoring 20 goals and registering six assists in the Bundesliga alone this season.

On top of that, he works hard for the team and possesses the versatility to play out wide or centrally.

I think the biggest downside is that Werner will be looking for regular football and it’s hard to see him getting that at Liverpool, in my opinion, unless Jurgen Klopp decides to change his prefered 4-3-3 formation.

That is assuming Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all stay put, with the Liverpool trio making up arguably Europe’s most feared attacking unit.

Should Werner be happy to be a squad player, or at least not one of the first names on the team-sheet, then I believe it would be a match made in heaven and I would urge the Reds to make a move to sign him.
