There have been many players linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.
However, of all those linked with moves to Anfield, there is one who is perfect for Liverpool and perfect for Jurgen Klopp.
His name is Marco Asensio.
Asensio is a luxurious and versatile forward who plays out wide but can also play in the middle of the park.
After spending a season at Mallorca, where he kicked off his lucrative career, Asensio was snapped up quickly by one of Europe’s elite clubs; Real Madrid. Ever since he completed his move, he has never looked back and he’s blossomed into the player he is today.
Asensio had a slow start in Madrid for several reasons. He joined during the era of winners and champions. He was surrounded by the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Karem Benzema, Gareth Bale and last but not least the relentless and ruthless Cristiano Ronaldo. Therefore, it was basically guaranteed that his game time was limited.
However, this didn’t stop Asensio becoming the deluxe player he now is. He did all he could to prove his worth and when given a chance to come off the bench, he made sure he had an impact.
During his time at Madrid so far, the Spaniard has contributed over 44 goals involvements (27 goals, 17 assists) in just 135 appearances; a fantastic return for someone who rarely gets game time.
One of those goals was the key to securing Madrid’s twelveth European cup trophy against Juventus, showing that Asensio is a big game player.
Asensio is known for his nimble feet and dribbling. The playmaker has many essential tools in his arsenal that could be vital for Liverpool’s success in the coming future.
Ultimately, he could be the greatest Philippe Coutinho replacement and could add that tiny bit of quality, either from the start or coming off the bench.
If Klopp switched to a 4-2-3-1 formation with the deadly Mo Salah up top, Roberto Firmino’s dynamism in the number ten role, Sadio Mane’s vicious pace on the left and Asensio’s acute and wonderful left foot on the right-hand side, that could be absolutely frightening.
Do I think he will come to Liverpool? I’m not sure, but do I want him? Yes!
He would add depth, quality and goals which will breathe freshness in the Liverpool squad.
