Rumours that Liverpool are looking at making an offer for Alisson Becker in this summer’s transfer window are rife. Liverpool have conceded 113 goals in 95 games, and Jurgen Klopp is struggling to find a suitable number one within the team. Simon Mignolet seems as good as gone, and Loris Karius is now the first-choice ‘keeper. The problem is, he isn’t quite good enough.
Sky Sports originally reported that Liverpool had begun early stage discussions with Alisson and Roma via an Italian intermediary. They also said that Liverpool had made enquiries about Alisson during the January transfer window and may be looking to convince Roma to sell the 26-year-old during the coming months.
Roma believe Alisson to be one of the best goalkeepers in Europe and have valued him at around £62 million, which would be a record transfer price for a goalkeeper. And the statistics do suggest that he is one of the finest in his position. Alisson has an 80.21 percent save rate, the highest in Serie A, and has performed like a legend throughout the season.

Roma won’t want to let him go without a fight though and will probably be looking for Alisson to sign a new contract to secure him at the club, but they should be aware of the interest from top-level clubs, such as Liverpool and Real Madrid. Liverpool are one of the top teams in the world, with a fan base of around 32.5 million, according to the Premier League Unibet chart. Alisson will reportedly decide on his future after the World Cup.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport has claimed that Roma won’t sell Alisson to Liverpool on the basis that they regret letting Mohamed Salah go last year and would face a backlash from fans. However, this seems ill-founded, and at the end of the day, it will be the choice of the player and clubs involved.
To complicate the rumors even further, Alisson’s agent Ze Maria Neis has now denied that Liverpool are in the hunt for the star goalkeeper and added that his actual value will be determined by market forces. This has cast doubt on whether Alisson is one of the goalkeepers that Klopp is after, though it seems that Liverpool are keeping a close eye on him.
Only time will tell whether Alisson will stay with Roma or make a move to Liverpool, Real Madrid or elsewhere. If he does move, he is sure to be one of the most prolific and expensive goalkeeper transfers ever. Let’s hope he ends up with The Reds!
