Young Liverpool defender Corey Whelan has joined League Two side Crewe Alexandra on loan until January, journalist Pete O’Rourke reports.
The 20-year-old was a former product of Crewe’s junior academy and joined the Reds back in 2007 at the age of nine.
Since then, the talented defender has progressed through the academy on Merseyside and has featured heavily for the club’s under-23 side, enjoying a brief Football League loan spell at Yeovil Town towards the end of last season.

Whelan featured 11 times for the Glovers during the previous campaign, finding the back of the net on one occasion at Huish Park.
The Irish central defender is set to link up with his new club after the international break, as he has been called up to the Republic of Ireland at under-21 level.
Whelan was appointed the Reds’ under-23 captain ahead of the previous campaign and is highly thought of at Anfield.
