Dominic Solanke on leaving Chelsea for Anfield and Champions League glory

Dominic Solanke has been involved in a Champions League winning club before but this time he wants to be at the heart of it, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The young striker was in the Chelsea ranks when they claimed their first Champions League crown back in 2012, beating Bayern Munich on penalties.

The 20-year-old wants to experience that winning feeling all over again with the Reds:

I was in the youth team, didn’t go to Munich, but watched it at home, the Champions League is one of the biggest competitions in the world and to win it is amazing. Back then I saw how much it meant to everyone so hopefully, we can get it here too. I’m looking forward to feeling that here.

The England international admitted it was a difficult decision to leave Stamford Bridge, but the right one for his career.

It was hard to leave Chelsea, but Liverpool is such an amazing club and we should always be fighting for trophies and we have got a good chance now. Hopefully, we can do that. It’s always hard to move, but it’s part of football and you have got to make a change for your career sometimes and I’m happy I came here and want to try and carry on doing what I can do.

Solanke will be desperate for a place on the bench in Kiev, and he will have done his chances no harm after the goal he scored against Brighton on the last day of the Premier League season.
