Liverpool’s results have been somewhat erratic as of late. Their range of results vary from a 7-0 thrashing of Maribor in the Champions League, to a 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur away at Wembley.
This inconsistency applies to the team, as well as the results. The defence is a major problem for the Reds, with Dejan Lovren having a torrid time and centre-back partner Joel Matip looking like an average player.
The squad is very heavy on attackers, and light in defensive areas. Whilst Jurgen Klopp has the luxury of resting key players such as Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, he can replace them without sacrificing quality.
Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and Daniel Sturridge, two regular England internationals, see most of Liverpool’s games from the bench, and see most of their action in the cup competitions.
In defence, there is no such luxury, with 31-year-old Estonian Ragnar Klavan and 20-year-old prospect Joe Gomez the only recognised central defenders available from the first team squad.
Klopp has to find a way to put Sunday’s result behind them, as the Reds come up against Huddersfield Town, who have just picked up a shock 2-1 victory against title contenders Manchester United.
Liverpool now have the task to regroup and find a way to beat a Huddersfield side high on morale and high on confidence.
Here are five things to look out for in this encounter:
