Four Findings: Chelsea 1-1 Liverpool

With two back-to-back matches in four days, Liverpool played Chelsea again, this time in the Premier League. The Reds salvaged a point from the Blues, drawing 1-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Some teams are simply well-suited to challenge others. In recent years, Chelsea have seemed to be just that a side that matches up well with Liverpool. Plus, Chelsea are a club that did win the league nearly 18 months ago. After stumbling against the Blues in midweek, Liverpool were looking for revenge in a match that mattered more.

Chelsea’s chief tormentor, Eden Hazard, however, picked up where he left off Wednesday night and caused Liverpool all kinds of problems, including giving the home side a one-goal lead that stood for most of the match. Yet, Liverpool kept grafting and eventually got an equalizer.

Never an easy trip, this fixture was an intense and entertaining, end-to-end affair almost from the beginning. Both teams pressed aggressively and pushed the pace of the game to exceptionally high levels. It was more like the high-wire act reminiscent of earlier Jurgen Klopp Liverpool sides. Still, Liverpool created plenty of chances and deserved no less than a draw.

Leaving London, the Reds remain unbeaten and have to feel some vindication as they prepare to visit Napoli and then host Manchester City. It is a crucial period in the season already and Liverpool have to feel that they are as well suited to face City as any team in the world.

Here are four findings from the match.
