After the game, the England boss told BBC Sport that they “didn’t like the way he landed” and they would continue to “check” the extent of Gomez’s injury over the coming days.
And on Sunday afternoon, a statement on the club website was issued to confirm that the 19-year-old had returned to Liverpool – following the Football Association’s confirmation.

Gomez is set to undergo further scans and his ankle injury will continue to be monitored at Melwood.
Although the damage to the ex-Charlton man’s ankle is still unknown, he is likely to miss the Reds’ next fixture following the international break – away at Crystal Palace next Saturday.
With Gomez’s injury laying bare to his hopes of starting against Italy on Tuesday evening at Wembley, the likes of James Tarkowski and Harry Maguire are hopeful of an inclusion into the side at the expense of the Liverpool defender.
