According to ESPN, Liverpool midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira has agreed to join Portuguese giants Porto. The youngster recently turned down a new contract at Liverpool and a source close to the player has told ESPN that a deal has been agreed.
Despite a lack of game time in recent seasons, the club recently offered Teixeira a renewal but he’s understandably declined the offer and he is now waiting for a return to Portugal.
The 23-year-old joined the Reds in 2013 from Sporting Lisbon but has struggled to break into the first team. He’s made sporadic appearances, mainly in the cups and had and been loaned out twice; to Brentford and Brighton respectively.
A source told ESPN that a number of clubs were interested in signing Teixeira but Porto were the first club to make him a concrete offer. The deal looks to be a five-year contract, although that will be confirmed this weekend.
Nine other players have also been recently released by the Merseyside team including Jose Enrique and Kolo Toure.
