Jack Dunn came off the bench to score a hat-trick as Morecambe beat Championship side Rotherham United 5-4 after extra-time in the EFL Cup First Round.
The Liverpool loanee didn’t come on until the 60th minute, but still had enough time to net three goals as the Shrimpers sealed their passage through to the Second Round, where they could face Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.
21-year-old Dunn scored his first goal within four minutes of coming on to give his side a shock 2-1 lead, then netted a penalty in injury-time to force extra time.
Kevin Ellison then gave Morecambe a valuable lead, before Dunn sealed his hat-trick late on.
Elsewhere in the competition, Welsh goalkeeper Dan Ward kept goal for Huddersfield Town as they lost 2-1 at Shrewsbury Town.
Fellow stopper Ryan Fulton also played the ninety minutes as Chesterfield were defeated 3-1 by Rochdale.
Ryan Kent came on as a 60th minute substitute for Barnsley, who lost 2-1 to Northampton Town after extra time in their tie.
But there was no action for Adam Bogdan, after he was demoted to the bench for Wigan Athletic’s 2-1 defeat at Oldham Athletic.
