Liverpool will be hoping to bounce back from defeat to Chelsea as they face AC Milan in the second game of their US tour on Sunday morning.
The defeat to Antonio Conte’s new-look side was the Reds’ first International Champions Cup match of the summer ahead of fixtures against the Serie A side then Barcelona.
Summer signings Loris Karius and Marko Grujic are both sidelined with a broken hand and concussion respectively, meaning Simon Mignolet or Alex Manninger will step in for their first appearance of the summer.
Daniel Sturridge and Giorgino Wijnaldum are also set for their first outings of pre-season after missing the defeat to Chelsea.
Opposition Watch
I Rossoneri are not the European powerhouses that they once were, but they should pack enough punch to test Jurgen Klopp’s men on Sunday morning.
Vicenzo Montella’s men have finished outside Serie A’s top six in each of the last three seasons, but victories against Bordeaux and Bayern Munich this summer suggests that the glory days could be about to return.
Colombian attacker Carlos Bacca netted 20 times in all competitions last season and has been attracting interest from Premier League clubs in recent weeks, but he remains a Milan player despite having not travelled to the States.
Former Liverpool midfielder Suso could be set to face the Reds however, after leaving Anfield for the San Siro last summer.
The 22-year-old impressed on loan for Genoa last season, scoring 6 goals in 19 appearances, and his goalscoring prowess has continued this summer, scoring twice in Milan’s 2-1 victory over Bordeaux.
Centre-back Gabriel Paletta also had a brief spell at Anfield earlier in his career, making three appearances during the 06/07 season.
Previous Meetings
Liverpool met Milan in the US two summers ago in the same competition, with the Reds running out 2-0 winners thanks to Joe Allen and now Milan player Suso.
Prior to that, the last two meetings between the sides were in Champions League finals, with Milan beating Liverpool in the 2007 Athens final, after the Reds produced a superb comeback in Istanbul 2005 to lift the trophy.
