Roma winger says Reds don’t deserve to be in the Champions League Final

Roma winger Cengiz Under has said he thinks Liverpool only made it to the Champions League final because of poor officiating, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

Liverpool beat Roma 7-6 on aggregate in a thrilling tie, which lined up a mouth-watering final against Real Madrid in Kiev.

The semi-final against Roma wasn’t without its controversy, with Roma believing they should have had two penalties. Roma owner James Pallotta was charged by UEFA after the tie for comments he made about referee Damir Skomina.

The Serie A side believed they should have had penalties for both a challenge on Edin Dzeko and a later handball by young full-back Trent Alexander Arnold.

Turkish winger, Under, believes these decisions were the only thing that separated the two sides:

If there were five minutes more, we could have scored a couple. In Rome, there were two penalties which should have been given for us. I don’t want to criticise the referee, I’m only 20 years old but that’s the truth. I could have been in Kiev today. They took that away from us. That’s my opinion.

Liverpool could also argue that Roma were awarded two dubious penalties, and were lucky not to have full-back Alessandro Florenzi sent off for his challenge on Sadio Mane.
