Salah prioritises Champions League over 40-goal-record

According to The Guardian, Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah says that winning the Champions League is more important than his very impressive goal record this season.

His goal in the 3-0 victory against Bournemouth on Saturday took Salah’s goal tally for this season to 40 goals in all competitions, becoming the third Liverpool player to ever reach that feat, after Roger Hunt in 1961/62 and Ian Rush in 1983/84 & 1986/87.

Despite reaching this tally, Salah says he will swap every goal which he has scored this season in return for a Champions League win.

After scoring two goals over both legs in his sides 5-1 aggregate victory over Manchester City in the quarter-finals, Salah will now face his former side Roma in the semi-finals of the greatest club competition in the world.

When speaking about his and his teams success, Salah said

It means a lot. I try to score every game to help the team and to get the points. That is the most important thing for us, that we play as a team, as 11 players, and so each goal for me is to help the team.

It is a great feeling, of course it is a great feeling, but in the end I am just happy to score and help the team. If I had a choice between the Champions League and the Golden Boot, then of course it would be the Champions League, no doubt the Champions League.

To win the Champions League is huge for everyone. I don’t care about the rest.

The Liverpool faithful will be looking for their talisman to help them to the Champions League final against either two giants of European football, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.
