West Bromwich Albion have entered discussions over a move for Christian Benteke, reports The Guardian.
The Liverpool forward has been made surpless to requirements at Anfield, where he has fell out of favour since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp.
Crystal Palace were expected to seal a move for Benteke – who has spent just one year at Anfield – with the Reds expected to recieve £30m for the player.
But West Brom have entered the race to sign the Belgian at the last minute in the hope of scuppering the Eagles’ move.
Benteke was brought to Merseyside for £32 million by Brendan Rodgers last summer, but scored just nine Premier League goals in a troubled season.
His appearances were limited under Klopp, with the German not a fan of the Belgian’s style, and the arrival of Sadio Mane means Benteke faces even less game time this season if he were to stay at the club.
But it looks as if the player is set to be released from his Liverpool nightmare, with West Brom and Crystal Palace now set to fight over his signature ahead of the start of the season.
