Burnley v Liverpool – The Kop HQ’s match preview

Liverpool face a tough trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley, just two days after beating Leicester on Saturday. The timing is not ideal and it will force Jurgen Klopp into making numerous changes to his starting line-up.

The manager has already confirmed that Simon Mignolet will return in goal and I’d expect a a few defensive alterations with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ragnar Klavan both vying for a start.

In midfield, there’s also the possibility of starts for Gini Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and it will be interesting to see if Mo Salah makes the game after limping off against Leicester. Dominic Solanke is also an option for Klopp upfront.

Burnley, under Sean Dyche, are very well organised and they don’t concede many goals.

They are a tough, compact team who will make it difficult for us. They’ve had a remarkable season really and although they are now 7th in the table, they’ve been 4th on occasions this campaign.

I am expecting a tight game and I’ve got a feeling that we might drop points in all honesty, I think we might struggle to break them down, as so many other teams have.

We struggled against Burnley in the 1-1 draw at Anfield back in September and I can see a similar score line on New Year’s Day.

Prediction

Burnley 1-1 Liverpool (Wood / Mane)
