Five things we learned: Everton (H)

While April Fool’s Day prank news rolled across our social media feeds on Saturday morning, a much more serious mood settled over Anfield as Everton arrived for the 228th Merseyside Derby clash with Liverpool.

It was a game overshadowed in part by injuries to Adam Lallana and Seamus Coleman during the international break, as well as the recent passing of ‘Mr Liverpool’ Ronnie Moran, to whom Anfield paid tribute to before kick-off.

Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners in the end, claiming both the bragging rights and the three points that send them third in the Premier League. Goals from Sadio Mane, Phillipe Coutinho and Divock Origi were enough either side of a header from Everton youngster, Matthew Pennington.

The Reds are now two points ahead of Manchester City who have two games in hand over Jurgen Klopp’s side.

While there are a multitude of issues to talk about after the final whistle, I’ve narrowed them down to five key points. Here’s what we learned from today’s Merseyside Derby.
