The last time these sides met, Philippe Coutinho rifled home the only goal of a strange game. Jamie Carragher retired, almost going out in a blaze of glory with a 40 yard strike. The game has mostly been forgotten now. Barely noticed it happened. That young lad made a debut, Jordon Ibe.
The reason the game was so forgettable is that it’s one of those games. ‘Big club’ meets potential banana skin in the league, and the result either goes 2 ways. ‘Big club’ wins and it’s all forgotten about, or, ‘banana skin’ prevails and the game goes down in folklore amongst football rivals.
Now, it would be all well and good to now write that I want Liverpool to make everyone remember this. Let’s go win 6-0, show everybody what we can do. No. Lets speak realistically. I don’t want to be able to remember this game in a years time. I want to be pleasantly surprised when watching the season review, and remembering the untroubled, quiet victory we gained. Last season has gone. It was a hell of a lot of fun, but we don’t score 6 goals a game anymore. No bother, let’s start by conceding less. Better start now actually, forget the start of the season. It’s gone. The post Suarez blues need to be gone. Lets do our own thing again. Winning football matches. We don’t care how.
In terms of line-up, everything is up in the air at the moment. Sturridge is injured, Lovren might be, Markovic could be, Allen and Can could return but might not. Despite the huge clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday looming, I hope we go for our strongest available side:
I hope we do that and we do the basics right. If we do that, we’ll win the game. 3-0.
P.S. Yes, I would play Raheem Sterling IF HE’S UP TO IT, despite tired-gate. Because, lets face it, he’s our player.
