Sevilla v Liverpool – The Kop HQ’s match preview

The Reds are in a rich vein of form at present, registering four wins on the spin, scoring 13 goals in the process and only conceding the one goal in those games too.

It’s important to not get too carried away though, as those victories were against poor sides and teams we should be beating anyway, however, it does help build confidence and momentum going into more trickier games ahead, the first of which is in the Champions League game away to Sevilla.

The Spanish side are vying with ourselves and Spartak Moscow to see who can qualify from the group. If Liverpool can win in the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, then it is likely we will top the group. A draw would also be a good result as long as we then beat Spartak Moscow in our final fixture to secure top spot, so there is a lot riding on this fixture on Tuesday evening.

Sevilla have some very dangerous players in their ranks with Wissam Ben Yedder, Luis Muriel, Pablo Sarabia, Nolito all capable of causing the Reds problems, not forgetting our old nemesis Ever Banega, who ran the show against us in the Europa League Final back in 2015. They also have the man mountain, Steven Nzonzi in the middle of the park.

This will be a tough game for Liverpool, but we have our own players for them to be weary of. The attacking quartet of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino are a massive threat to any side in football. The pace, invention, movement and goalscoring ability amongst those four is immense and I’m expecting a game with plenty of goals, similar to the game at Anfield which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Jurgen Klopp could make a few changes to the starting line-up, but I think Loris Karius for Simon Mignolet and Joe Gomez for Trent Alexander-Arnold will be the only alterations to the side that dispatched of Southampton with ease.

As much as a win would be ideal in this game in Spain, I do feel it may end up a draw, so I’ll go with a repeat of the score line back in September and another 2-2.

Prediction:

Sevilla 2-2 Liverpool

(Ben Yedder, Sarabia / Mane, Firmino)
