In their first match on American shores, Liverpool faced tougher competition than they have played thus far in England’s North West. Despite controlling much of the match and even taking a lead, Liverpool fell to Borussia Dortmund 3-1.
While the crowd definitely looked more red than yellow, it was Dortmund’s young American who stole the show on home soil with a brace and essentially helping force the third goal.
Christian Pulisic, the 19-year-old who Jurgen Klopp recently spoke admiringly about, seized proceedings in North Carolina. He scored a penalty, coolly finished a smart sequence and fired a shot that Loris Karius pushed onto Bruun Larsen’s foot for the third.
Liverpool should have put this match away much earlier but never found a finish to extend their advantage. Eventually, it only took a mistake to give Dortmund an entry back into things. Once square, the German side pulled away from the Reds. In the waning minutes, Liverpool looked leggy and Dortmund snatched the win.
