Four Findings: Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

In the Premier League’s marquee match, a battle was on display at Anfield.

No red cards, no boiling over, no goals but a battle nonetheless in a tense, tight contest that ended in a goalless draw.

Liverpool failed to take their chances against a Manchester United side determined to make the game boring, with the match finishing in frustration, 0-0.

Matches on either side of international breaks tend to be problematic for Liverpool of late. For a team that relies so much on rhythm, the disruption and scheduled fixtures often present Liverpool with problems they have been yet to sufficiently solve.

Playing Manchester United at home, however, provided a wonderful opportunity to restart a season that has already started sputtering.

Again, the Reds created chances but could not seize the opportunity before them. There were moments that suggest that a change of luck may be within reach. There was a seriousness of purpose present against United that could signal a shift. The Reds played with more poise across most of the pitch with the possible exception of the final third. It was a more controlled, patient performance. It just was not enough to take all three points.

Here are four findings from the match.
