In what can only be described as a shocker, Liverpool crashed out of the FA Cup in round four. Poor in their last league match, losing to Swansea, at home against West Bromwich Albion the Reds were abject. Liverpool collectively collapsed to end their cup run.
For all the talk of needing a proper response after the trip to Wales, Jurgen Klopp has to be scratching his head after this dismal display. No one covered themselves in glory and this was a full strength side. After jumping off to a dream start, with Roberto Firmino scoring in the first five minutes, Liverpool lost their way quickly and could not quite recover.
Even with two beneficial VAR calls, one denying the Baggies a goal and the other awarding Liverpool a penalty, the Reds still faltered and faltered badly. Despite West Brom being in a relegation fight, they punished errors by the home side and deserved the win.
Klopp may have believed in the players at his disposal but to not bring in any reinforcements before the transfer window closes can only provoke the ire of supporters after the last two performances. While it would be dishonest to suggest that either of that last two matches really required the departed Philippe Coutinho, they certainly needed something far different than what the Red’s bench has offered.
Here are four findings from the match.
