After what can only be considered a dip in form, Liverpool headed to Middlesbrough for a midweek clash in need of a victory. The Reds rebounded and grew to dominate things at the Riverside with an emphatic 3-0 win.
Manager Jurgen Klopp made the tough call and benched his first choice goalkeeper after mistakes cost the team points, showing a shrewd decisiveness. Taking the young keeper out of the limelight for a few matches might do him some good but he will no doubt return at some point.
The short span between matches was noticeable as Liverpool looked a bit more plodding than precise for much of the first half. Yet they were able to open the scoring, courtesy of Adam Lallana’s header, and take a lead into the break.
The second half showed that the Reds might be ready to renew the ruthlessness that had been missing recently. They seized the advantage and made it stick, pressing Boro with possession and perpetual attack. Lallana did a star turn and led Liverpool back to second place in the table.
