Despite the huge billing put on by Sky Sports and the added tension of having to wait two weeks for the game, Liverpool versus Manchester United ended goalless.
Liverpool were without Adam Lallana, who was only fit enough to be on the bench, and Gini Wijnaldum who wasn’t in the match day squad at all. This meant a start up front for Daniel Sturridge and a start for Emre Can in midfield.
The Reds were poor first half, looking disjointed and second best to everything and Jose Mourinho’s spoiling tactics worked to perfection.
The second half was much better, although there was a huge let off when Zlatan Ibrahimovic couldn’t direct his back post header on target.
Man United, not for the first time, can thank David De Gea for keeping them in a game as he made two high-class saves to deny Can and Philippe Coutinho.
The visitors can also thank Antonio Valencia for a wonderful last-ditch tackle on Roberto Firmino.
