Liverpool are through to the quarter finals of the EFL Cup after a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
Both sides made changes to their starting lineups and at times that showed but some of the fringe players showed their qualities.
However it was a familiar face who scored Liverpool’s two goals. Daniel Sturridge, the man who has been subject of more scrutiny than most Liverpool players, converted with a lovely chip from close range after Marko Grujic’s miss-hit in the first half.
He doubled the lead in the second half after he got onto the end of Gini Wijnaldum’s through ball and coolly slotted past Michel Vorm.
The game became much more nervy than it needed to be when Lucas gave away a penalty and Vincent Janssen converted with about 15 minutes left
Liverpool could have scored more if not for a few very good saves from Vorm and in the end, Liverpool saw out the game.
