Liverpool remain fourth in the Premier League after being held to frustrating goalless draw against rivals Manchester United as the ‘Red Monday’ clash failed to live up to the substantial hype.
Victory would have moved the Reds level on points with league leaders Manchester City, but they were denied by a well-organised United defence.
Jurgen Klopp’s side, prevented from playing their vintage, free-flowing attacking football, had the better of the few chances, with David de Gea making a pair of impressive saves from Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho.
United’s best opportunity fell to Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the first half, but the Swede could not direct his header on target.
