Liverpool’s title dreams now look all but gone after they lost 3-2 at home to Swansea City.
Jurgen Klopp gave Philippe Coutinho his first league start since November and decided to leave Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi on the bench, opting to play Roberto Firmino as the central man in the front three, with Adam Lallana on the right.
Liverpool saw plenty of the ball in the first half but didn’t create too much, in fact it was Swansea who went closest to scoring when Tom Carroll’s shot deflected off Dejan Lovren and onto the post.
After the break, things went terribly wrong for Liverpool. Fernando Llorente scored twice in five minutes. The first came as the result of a close range toe poke, the second with a towering header.
Liverpool needed a quick response and got it when Firmino headed home excellently from James Milner’s cross.
The Brazilian got Liverpool level with an even better goal. Gini Wijnaldum’s touch and cross set him up, but Firmino’s chest and half-volley finish was unbelievable.
Swansea, against the run of play, went ahead again when the ball came off Ragnar Klavan into the path of Gylfi Sigurdsson who slotted home.
Liverpool huffed and puffed for an equaliser but simply couldn’t get one.
